I don't know what that is, but I do like the finish. Nice grain being slowly covered by the black burst.
I suspect the reason you had trouble with the images is the size of them (over 2mb each?) . The whole point of jpg files is to reduce filesize without photographs loosing much resolution. I suggest you look at the options in your graphics package - First resize the images to the size on your page (the images below are the ones on your page - way too big), then apply a jpg compresson of 50%. Your image filesize will be 100 times smaller, and your page will load in a flash
