In superb condition, and owned by Frank Allen of the Searchers."

There's also these models.

"HOFNER MODELS 125, 126, 127, & 128
Often called "Club" guitars as that was the name given by Selmer to the UK equivalent instruments. Small bodied semi's (17" x 13" x 2") with no sound-holes. Fitted with either one (Model 125 & 127) or two (Model 126 & 128) pickups. The 125 & 126 were the budget Clubs The 127 and 128 was the deluxe versions. Made between 1954 and 1970."

Same thing with the control plates. Oval changed to rectangle.

Even if it had an oval plate, the guitar in question still looks as though it has been modded as the hole beneath the plate would be much smaller and the switch location is wrong.

Would somebody happen to know whether it is even possible to restore that to an 'original' hofner club 50?

Whoever expanded that control cavity sure destroyed any vintage value the Hofner may have had.

Benjamins, I think you now have license to restore the guitar anyway you see fit.

All me to be the first to say...

...what in the world??!???

You can almost certainly rule out the Valco houses.

For some reason, the first image that came to mind was Hofner... Maybe late 50's or early 60's? Maybe something like a Club 50? There's no way that control cavity hole is the original shape (just judging by the uneven cuts)... so it could easily have original held the rectangle plate... that headstock is spot on for a Hofner... That could very well be it.

This is a guitar I received from a relative. He planned to restore it but unfortunately never got to finish the job. I would like to complete his work but I haven't got a clue about this guitar's origins, nor can I find a brand or model name.

Can somebody help me identify this guitar?

Thanks, Robin
