Sadao Yairi wrote one of two small kanjis on the bottom right hand corner on some of his hand made hand written washi paper labels...one for heaven one for earth...seems one meant the wood was selected for it`s tonal qualities the other meant the wood was chosen for it`s appearance. With my guitars, solid wood over laminate has made a greater difference in tone to book matching, the ones with more elaborate binding and purfling seem to have been more expensive originally but that doesn`t always translate to better tone though sometimes it does...looks like better quality wood was selected for the models the luthiers spent more time on...but I have one older Nagoya nylon string that is rosewood and on the bottom where the two pieces of the side meet the purfling the sides are upside down...the grain is the same but it runs on top of one side and on the bottom of the other, kind of reversed...wonder if the guitar was made on a Monday morning...or the morning after the night before... when concentration isn`t always at it`s best, speaking for myself as well. Still, the guitar sounds great and is one of my faves.Statistics: Posted by sneakypete — Sat Mar 28, 2009 11:23 pm
