They were designed by Ron Lazar of OMI. Ron Lazar was a friend of Mori Daira.

Can't find any reference to a regular flat top Gibson acoustic model designated as an Original Hound Dog.

Edit - Found something interesting. Gibson acquired the "Original Hound Dog" brand name when they bought the Original Musical Instrument Company in 1993. I wonder if this guitar is actually a product of that company, made before the Gibson acquisition?
