I have owned a 1962 Fender Jazz Bass since 1966 when I paid $175 for it (a whole lot of money for a teenager back than). A few years later I stripped the Olympic white paint from the body and it has been ala natural ever since. Dumb? Sure, but who knew back than that they would some day become idols of worship? Anyway, it is long overdue to bring this bass back to its' old self again. I would like to repaint the body back to its' original color. I do not need to send this out as I have many years of professional custom painting experience including lots of cabinet and furniture lacquer work and all the gear to do it right. My questions for you are in regards to the correct materials to apply. 1) Does anyone know of sources to purchase the nitrocellulose lacquer undercoater, color and clear that are most consistant to what would have been originally used by the factory? 2)What are some options for producing the Olympic White in a faded, yelowed appearance as time would have if I had not butchered it? I am only after a yellowed look and not distressed worn (never seen one yet that looks like real wear from age). 3)Finally does anyone have an idea as to about how many coats per item would have been the norm at the factory? Any thing that you can pass on will be greatly appreciated and when this finally gets done I promise to send in a before and after. Thanks.Statistics: Posted by Michael L — Fri Jul 04, 2008 7:56 pm
