Mine is black with gold knobs saying volume and tone. My pick-ups have individual screws for each string for adjusting with silver pick-up bodies.

This guitar sounds great. But could use new fret wire in a couple of spots due to wear.

Bought mine at a garage sale in central Arizona this last summer. I paid $125 dollars with gig bag.

My first reaction was: "Hey, its him!"
But when i looked closer, i noticed that the pickups are different.

But thank you very much though.

If that serial number means anything (and they often didn't), my guess would be that it's either a 1977 or 1987 production, if it's Matsumoku.

Correct. Matsumoku was a company that made guitars for other companies. I'm not aware that there was ever a guitar that actually said "Matsumoku" on it. When you start studying guitar manufacturing in the second half of the 20th century, the first thing you learn is that it can be very confusing. There have been many factories around the world making guitars with many different brand names. Which factory makes what guitar has changed over time. Actual manufacturers of a given brand name change from one company in one country to another company in another country... Brand names are bought and sold...

But how do you know they are from Matsumoku if the name is not on it?

Ah. I understand. The fact is, Matsumoku made many guitars that they did not put their name on. I have a couple Matsumoku Epiphones and a Matsumoku Univox. None of them actually say "Matsumoku on them.

Looking at that neck plate it sure looks like some sort of Matsumoku/Aria product to me. From Matsumoku.org:

"Arai Co. also manufactured a number of re-brands and components distributed by other importers. Evidence of this can be seen in the design and construction of such brands as Univox, Conrad, Lyle, Domino, Maxi-Tone, Pan, Arita, and a number of others."

That LP in your picture reminds me of pictures of Conrad guitars I've see before. I think it's possible that "Custom" is one of the "numbers of other..." brands made by Aria and/or Matsumoku.

I've been searching for Custom by Matsumoku, and i found one with Custom on it.
But the neckplate shows Matsumoku, a serial number and Made in Japan.

On my guitar stands no Matsumoku...

Thanks for the advice though.
