Here is a conversation between Orval (aka Mr. Ibanez) and Jeff Hasselberger at Ibanez that appears on the Vintage Ibanez Forum. For those of you not familiar with these fellas, Orval may have the largest collection of vintage Ibanez guitars in the world and Jeff is probably best known for working with Bob Weir to develop the custom "Cowboy Fancy" guitar (2681) that he played from 1979 to the mid 80's. Their exchange goes like this:
jeff, i have an early strat copy with the hand carved top (eagle motif), i have also seen a dragon carving. in the literature of that era there is a third design, but i can't make it out in the photo. what is that design, and could you tell us a little about that series?

For Orval-
The third carved strat design was called either "Noveau" or "Art Noveau." It was an abstract design that was based on a still life of a cornucopia. The leaf shapes were predominant and gave it a flowing, art noveau character -- hence the name. There was one part of the carving that reminded me of a pineapple (I was probably tripping at the time), so I used to call it "The Pineapple Strat." I think we had these bodies carved in Taiwan, since we had a hard time finding a source in Japan. If memory serves me, we couldn't get reliable delivery on these, so we abandoned the project after a year or so. They are pretty rare.

Given the connection between Kasuga and Ibanez, I'm thinking these Kasuga/Electra bodies were carved in Taiwan as well. Does anyone know for sure?

When I saw your Kasuga, it reminded me of the carved top Electra guitars of the 70's. I took a look at my Electra catalogs and sure enough, they match. So, it looks like Kasuga was manufacturing these instruments and SLM was importing them under their Electra brand name. Here's a couple of pictures out of the 1977 Electra catalog for comparison:
Although you can't really see the headstock in this photo, the guitars look identical. Here is a picture of the SG version where you can see the neck inlay a bit clearer:
