Need help with cosmic guitar ?

Found this homeless unknown guitar at a pawn shop last week ,man it sounds great ,needs to be cleaned and played . Anyone know what it could be ??
Check out that COSMIC sign on the head stock ,Looks like that thing on the movie "CONTACT".with Jodie Foster.

Looks like a typical Kawai/Teisco made guitar.Kawai bought Teisco in 1967 and stopped using the Teisco brand name on guitars in 1969,so that might help date it. It certainly has all the attributes of a Teisco made under the Kawai ownership. Can't tell you exactly what model. They made so many variations that it's hard to identify a lot of them with specific model numbers.

Thanks for the info spud1950 they do have similar parts and looks .
the pickups have a great sound to them do you know anything
about the number of winds or info on the pickups?

It's hard to see it from this distance but that cosmic thing looks like something I've seen on Silvertones.

I think Cheepaxes is right. Does the emblem look like the one at top of this page? If so,it was indeed sold through Sears and dates it to the 1970s.By the time Sears used that emblem, they no longer used the Silvertone brand name.





I don't know anything about the pickups. You can measure them with a meter to get the K ohm readings.

Thanks guys ,your good at this , the cosmic looking thing next to the name SEARs in the flyer is what is on the head stock . Now I know who
sold it, should be able to find a photo of it in one of there catalogs.

Thanks to your help I found the SEARS catalog location .My guitar is
# 10 on the page and sold for 42.95

Keep in mind that that amount of money was a week's take-home pay at minimum wage at that time.

I got it at the pawn shop for $79.00 ,Someone took good care
of it for 40 years just for me . And it was played too the top frets
show it ,but it sounds great .

Yeah, take out taxes and insurance and you're at $45 or less.

I worked 45 hour weeks for that wage at that time in a cabinet factory.

FWIW,

Spud said that the cosmic logo was used on Sears guitars, but not those sporting the Silvertone brand. However I checked with a friend who owns a MIJ acoustic guitar with the cosmic logo on the headstock and her guitar *does* have a Silvertone label inside it.
