It's a Kay K4140.





It only appears in the 1959 Kay catalog. Available in brown or black. Original price was $69.50.There's also the K4144 two pickup version,original price $89.50.

I don't know whether it's worth $200 to you. I think it's pretty nifty, and would probably pay $200 if it's in decent shape and playable. Given its age and the fact that I don't see many of those around, Iwouldn't be surprised to see it go in the $300-450 range on eBay.

The finish is this stuff, Zolatone.



I have a 1952 Gibson GA-20 amp that I fixed up.A previous owner had taken off the covering off the cabinet and it was just bare wood. I sprayed it with a similar type of textured paint, Krylon Make It Stone. Looks really good!

Interesting idea (Zolatone). I have a Deluxe Reverb that has the tolex torn/worn off in spots. A previous owner addressed this by painting the bare wood black so it wouldn't be so noticeable. I've been debating pulling the tolex off and doing something with it. Sanding, staining and refinishing the wood would be an option if I can easily get the black paint off. If not, perhaps an interesting paint job?
