unknown archtop electric Japanese??

My friend picked up this relic at a garage sale. No name on it and t's missing the electronics and a lot of hardware. He said the headstock is Gibson-style open book. I'm betting Japanese due to the headstock and the tailpiece but it'd be good to find out for sure.

I don't know who made this guitar but the open book headstock suggest it was made around 1966. I have an example up on eBay now you can see here.



Sorry to be negative but I think you friend bought firewood. The cost of restoring an instrument like this far exceeds it's market value. Many of the budget guitars I sell are worth more in parts than intact instruments. Parts strippers are asking stupid money for the parts they pull off cheap guitars. I'm afraid this instrument has nothing going for it. Hopefully your friend can sell the tailpiece and any other hardware to earn back his investment and gas money.
