I found a 1963 Fender Jag in a second hand shop in Ontario for one thousand of their Canadian dollars. It's still in transit but is In England and on its way north to me. I have photographs and the serial number (LO2615) checks out but it's had, at some point, a pretty dodgy repaint and the decals and bridge mute are erased/missing. I wondered if I should keep it for posterity (it was one of the last things the guy sold as he was retiring - he's kept in touch!!) or if it's going to be worth anything to someone in the state it's in.

Hi Pete,

Sounds like you got a decent deal on your Jag, I hope it isn't costing too much to have it shipped.

The respray really hurts the value of your instrument. For perspective, a 1963 Jag in excellent condition is worth around $3,200 USD while the same guitar in fair condition is worth around $1,000 USD. In general, a poor respray will result in the guitar being rated as "Fair" condition.

The fact that you have imported the guitar into the U.K. immediately raises it's value since vintage Fenders bring higher prices in the U.K. than the U.S. or Canada. I'd probably just leave it alone and play it. It won't appreciate nearly as fast as an instrument in good condition but you will be able to get more than your investment back out of it when you decide to sell. sb
