Hi i play the bass,
While AIMS amplifiers were Randall, their guitars and basses were imported from Japan.
I've never taken the time to figure out which factory AIMS instruments came from but the majority of Japanese electric copy guitars imported to the U.S. from early to mid 1970's were being cranked out by four major factories.
In order of quantities shipped, I think it was:
1. Matsumoku
2. Fujigen
3. Kasuga
4. Terada
This period is very confusing when trying to ID the origin of an instrument. Hoshino (Ibanez) had guitars made at both Matsumoku and Fujigen. I think Aria and SLM (Electra) got guitars from both Matsumoku and Kasuga. To make matters worse, I've heard Kasuga bought necks from Matsumoku and put them on Kasuga bodies.

Is it good enough to know your bass was made in Japan and likely came from one of the big four?
