Fender Precision Bass 2006 50th Aniversary gold plated

I have just been left this lovely collectors item by a late uncle it it is perfect condition don't even think it has been used.Does anyone know what it may be worth.

I'm really not sure what you have since Fender has celebrated more "anniversaries" than my great aunt Tessie. It seems like half their product line is celebrating some anniversary recently. Must be a good marketing tool.

The 50th anniversary instruments I'm most familiar with were the 1996 range that can be seen here:



These instruments have the gold plating you describe.

Fender also had a 50th anniversary Precision bass in 2001 but it had a butterscotch finish and no gold hardware. You can read about this instrument here:




I just don't know about a 50th anniversary Precision Bass produced in 2006. This doesn't mean there wasn't one, especiallly if it is a custom shop model. However, I'm afraid we can't talk value until we figure out what you have. Can you supply some more information or perhaps a photo. Seeing (or describing) the metal cover where the neck bolts to the body would be very helpful. sb

Its deffo the 4 string bass from the link you provided.Any ideas on value.I think my uncle paid £500 for it in 2000.Its a limited edition of 500 it is number 439.

Well Jim, I was sorta hoping you would pick the 2001 since it is listed in my price guide. The 1996 version is not listed.

However, they do list the 40th anniversary Precision bass. There were 400 of these instruments made and they are valued between $1,500 and $1,800 USD. Given you uncle paid around $1,000 USD in 2000 for the 50th anniversary model I would guess you could expect around $1,500 if you were selling to a U.S. buyer. It is likely the guitar is worth more in the U.K. but I really have no idea how much more. Hopefully my speculation will serve as a ballpark figure. sb
