1961 Stratocaster

[Stratomaster]

Hi. I have recently acquired what I believe to be a 1961 Stratocaster. It has its issues--repainted body, missing pot, decal, and pickguard etc.--however the neck is nice as are the pickups, hardware, and remaining pots. What might this be worth in its present condition? Should I have it restored? Thanks!

Hey Stratomaster.

Realistically, value is probably between $7,500 and $8,500 in it's current condition. Maybe $9,000-$9,500 on a good day. Here is a refin 1960 Strat listed on Elderly for $11,000. I think a $500 professional refinish on this guitar will substantially increase it's value. I say find a competent luthier to do a refin. If you go to the trouble, pick a desirable custom color from 1961.

Thanks for the advice. I picked this strat up cheap so it is good to hear that it is worth so much as is. Nevertheless, I will certainly contact a luthier and have it refinished. Any recommendations for the Philadelphia or New York areas?
