I got confirmation from GSG that my guitar is Authentic, custom built, end of 1977 early 78. They built very few Bass guitars and say it will be very rare.
It has some normal scratches from heavy gigging but then so don't we all. Plays and sounds lovely.
Any idea how much I should insure it for?

I don't think anyone is going to be able to give you a very specific price for your bass. As you say, it is rare and I can't find any that have sold recently. My hunch is that if something happened to this bass you would have a difficult time finding another. So, for insurance, I think you need to identify a different bass that you believe is similar to the Gordon-Smith and would serve as a suitable replacement. The value of the instrument you identify could then serve as the replacement value of the Gordon-Smith.
