Fender Mustang 1969 competition. ALL ORIGINAL

So wanted to ask what you would value my Bass. Is up for sale and have seen a few from the U.S But would like to know what you think.

Serial No 228138 came out as 1969 Made at Fulerton Plant USA, CBS era.
Butt of the neck 17MAR1969B.

Has been well gigged with some minor dents, scratches etc.

Wow, that's a beauty! In what I believe is a rare color. To get an idea of its value, you can do two things:

Get a copy of either Vintage Guitar Magazine or the Vintage Guitar Price Guide. The magazine has lots of ads for guitars with asking prices (http://www.vintageguitar.com).

Or search eBay and follow the prices for a few weeks. This is less relaible than the Price Guide, but somewhat helpful.

Because of the color, I think you can get more for yours.

Fender guitars are generally worth more in the UK but the US Blue book puts a value of $1,600 on a Competition Mustang in Excellent Plus (95%) condition. A similar bass without the competition finish is valued at $1,350.

Value drops by $300 for each step down the condition scale. I can't tell much about the condition of your bass from the photos but from what I see condition looks pretty good.

The BB says the Competition Mustangs were produced between 1969-1973 and came in Blue, Burgundy, Orange and Red. I don't know actual production numbers but Red and Blue seem to pop up more often than Burgundy and Orange.

It has the red stripe. Is your white stripe original? In the photo it looked like there might be a little wrinkle in it.

Then there's a reissue that's selling for around $700 USD...so unless yours is damaged or refinished, your low end should be well above that.

Found all the info between you and original owner. Photo taken with flash changed the true colour a little. When brout new it was listed as candy apple red and still has a near true colour tone as seen very well when I looked at the pots and saw its original colour.

Everyting on this including electrics and strings are all original.

Had a few collectors come by and see it and have been offered 1000 but think as its a family guitar and has been since new I will now keep hold of it.

Thanks for all your help guys. I wont be refinishing or doing anything with this other than having a little tinkle every now and then.
