There were Club models with an oval control plate. They were changed to the rectangular sometime in 1958.
"This must be one of the last fitted with the oval-shaped control console. In superb condition, and owned by Frank Allen of the Searchers."
There's also these models.
"HOFNER MODELS 125, 126, 127, & 128
Often called "Club" guitars as that was the name given by Selmer to the UK equivalent instruments. Small bodied semi's (17" x 13" x 2") with no sound-holes. Fitted with either one (Model 125 & 127) or two (Model 126 & 128) pickups. The 125 & 126 were the budget Clubs The 127 and 128 was the deluxe versions. Made between 1954 and 1970."
Same thing with the control plates. Oval changed to rectangle.
Even if it had an oval plate, the guitar in question still looks as though it has been modded as the hole beneath the plate would be much smaller and the switch location is wrong.
