There's a local ad for a 1960 Vox hollow body electric guitar. I know folks get very imaginative when they date guitars, but I'm wondering if this is worth taking a look.

Did Vox even make guitars in 1960? I checked the catalogue section here and I didn't see anything that would indicate that they did.

I'll have to give this guy a call.

Hi Bob,

I checked "The Vox Story" Guitar History Volume 4. They say the first Vox guitars were called the Stroller and the Clubman introduced in 1961. Apprarently these early models were made by Stuart Darkins & Co. in Shoeburyness. Darkins & Co. were basically funiture makers looking to diversify. Given they had no skilled guitar builders, they stuck with producing solidbody guitars aimed at the budget market.

So, 1960, probably not; 1960's, probably. sb

Thanks Steve.

I called and there was already someone there looking at the guitar. I asked the seller to call me if it does not sell. No call yet.

Thanks as always for the info.
