need help with pre-WW2 archtop

Today a friend gave me her father's archtop. Anyone out there know a maker or a date for this one?

Inside one f-hole is the serial number: 1148X3842. The first "8" is
smudged and could be something else.

Could that blurry 8 be a H? If so you might have a harmony per:
