yes mrblanche, patience is key. although, i wait only 24 hrs to wet sand and it works out fine. the accelerators in nitro lacquer make it dry to handle within a few hours. but it does actually continue to dry for a few years as i understand it. i do wait a few days before i do the final sand and buff, then i let it hang for a week or 2 before assembly. no cases or stands for a while too.
