pickuard cleanup

im restoring and repainting my old Zenon guitar. the pickguard was pearl colored at one point, but its stained and dirty now. i dont have the cash for a blank to make a new one right now, and i was wondering if theres a way to clean it up to restore its original look.

I have some Zen On pick guards lying around. Buying an original replacement is probably much cheaper than making a replacement since so many of these guitars have been parted out for their "Gold Foil" pups.

Let me know the pup configuration you have and I'll see if I have the part.

the pups i have are the stock gold foils. i have pics of this guitar up in the "vintage electric guitars of unknown origin" section

I've had pretty good luck refurbishing old pickguards with automotive rubbing compounds. Don't use a rotary polisher as they run too fast and you'll burn through (ask me how I know), but a dual action orbital polisher which runs slower works well. You can also use Brasso instead of rubbing compound, but because it's finer, it takes longer. I've done a few by hand, and it can be done, but pack a lunch - you'll be at it for a while if you do it by hand. Good luck!
