In 1978 a friend was moving and gave me his old electric guitar in a beat up original case. I was an acoustic Bluesman and never gave the guitar much thought until 2006 when a buddy invited me to form a garage rock band. I bought a little practice amp and tried to figure out how to play an electric guitar & amp.
Some of the knobs on the guitar didn't seem to work reliably. But I didn't know what they were supposed to do anyway, much less what the knobs on the amp did (remember that stage?). After several weeks of playing, I figured out a pickup wasn't workin right.
Looking for a good luthier to do a complete assessment and repair plan, I learned this 1963 Epiphone Casino is regarded as quite a gem. I found an excellent vintage guitar luthier who, with help from Lindy Fralin, got the guitar in perfect working order while preserving vintage integrity.
Today, it's still hard to believe I own such a great player with so much cache, not to mention its appreciating cash value. I'm just a steward and the guitar is willed to it's next steward, my rockin' godson, Justin.
I hope every guitar lover could have a story like this.
