How do I use North American gear in Germany?

Anyone with experience playing USAmerican gear in Countries with 220-240 V power able to advise me on what I need?

Some kind of step down transformer

This was the first thing that came up when I looked at amazon...

There are a lot of options in power transformers so you should find one that fits your specific power wattage needs. Make sure it lists the continuous wattage and not just peak wattage. Better to have more than you need than not enough.
