Ray Davies is a great songwriter and the Kinks were a fantastic Band.

Just to prove that these pop music shows of the 1960's were not always mimed to pre-recorded tracks, I offer this version of "All Day and All of the Night".

Performed on Shindig in 1965, Dave Davies splatters one of the most obvious missed chords I believe I have ever heard on TV. All he can do is laugh; must have been thinking about his upcomming solo. Neither the band or the audience seems to care

More great pop music from the Kinks. This time it's Tired of Waiting for You. Dave plays a Flying V and the drummer is perched on one of the scariest looking drum platforms I have ever seen

Here is a more psychedelic sound from the Kinks. I believe this was pre Rubber Soul (released December, 1965) so the Kinks were certainly at the forefront of incorporating a droning eastern vibe into their music.

Here is a music video of "Sunny Afternoon" ironically shot in a snow covered park. The temperature is cold enough to frost a breath so you've got to wonder who's bright idea it was to spend hours standing in the cold.

I love the drummer using a snow covered pine branch as a crash cymbal.

As I understand it, Ray sings about an encounter the band's manager experienced one night in a Soho club.
