A Herd of Longhorns

Here is a herd of Longhorns being played by the Australian group The Strangers. The song is "Happy Without You" from 1968:



It's tough to get a clear view of these guitars but I don't think they are Danelectros. Anyone have a clue what they are? They are not Teisco Phantoms either.

Nice to be able to help YOU out for a change !

The guitars in that film clip were made here in Australia by Maton, & were called "El Toro" models...introduced around 1968, which ties in with the date of the video.

VERY rare, even here..In years of looking out for old guitars, I've seen only two..a bright yellow 6-string, & a white Bass model..made in very small numbers, I believe !

Excellent work Jeff, I knew one of my Australian friends would be able to help me learn something new here. I suspected an Australian origin. These guitars don't show up in any of the Maton literature I've acquired so far. Guess I need to keep looking.
