Hound Dog Taylor Playing his Kawai

Here's a short clip of Hound Dog Taylor introducing his band. If you look quick, you can see he is holding what appears to be a 1967 Kawai S-160 but it might be a Teisco. It's not much, but unfortunately it is about all we have.



If you are a Taylor fan, you might enjoy this clip of a younger Taylor playing "Wild About You Baby" with Little Walter. Quality is not great but you got what you got. I love his Bass player.

whats the bass in the second? any ideas?

I can't tell for sure evilLordJuju, but I would say it is definitely "Made in Japan". The snub-nosed Fenderish headstock reminds me of a 1966-68 Kawai. I think the tuners and neck inlays are also consistant with Kawai. However, it could easily be Guyatone, Teisco or another less well know Japanese manufacturer. I'll try to take a closer look at the body in the last few frames of the video and see if I can get a more positive ID.
