I'm new to guitars and I was wondering if anyone out there could give me some info on this guitar. An old timer that lives down the street from me gave it to me. The name on the neck reads "Decca" and the sticker in the sound hole also reads "Decca" and under that it has the number "124". The label above the nut reads "STEEL REIN-FORCED NECK". I don't see any more labels or serial numbers or anything! The guitar measures 36". I Googled the company but I'm not finding much info. From the little info that I did find I believe the guitar was manufactured sometime in the sixties.
The soundboard is coming unglued at the bottom and it's missing the belt peg. It also has a couple of scratches and it's missing the E and G strings. The B string looks to be metal (steel, I'm guessing). It’s also missing a tuning knob. I tuned the strings that are left and I played with it for a few. Believe it or not the darn thing sounds pretty good. It's also lighter than my other guitar of the same size.
I would appreciate if any of you Guitar Gurus out there can give me some info. Is it a piece of crap or is it a classic that I should have repaired? Any thoughts or comments will be greatly appreciated.
