Kay Acoustic Guitar L797

I recently bought an acoustic guitar and after some investigating have determind it to be a Kay. I am trying to figure out what year it is. It has the stamp L797 n-3 inside. Thanks for any help/suggestions.

Hi shanester.
Unfortunately the L797 number you have found is not a model number, it is some type of production code Kay adopted. Here is an old thread that discusses this issue:

Hey shanester.
From what I can see, it is a Kay "Western" model acoustic from the early 1960's. It is different from the Western model catalog images in that it has an "inlay" around the sound hole and a tortoise pickguard rather than white.

Hey shanester - I can't add much, but I just got an allegedly 1960-something Kay flat-top acoustic with a similar L series number L 7128. Mine's a much different style body - but....
BUT ~ from the void on your headstock, I can tell (i think) that your logo would have looked like this one

I just bought an identical axe in poor condition for $10 - Searching Kay logos (and there seem to be many) can maybe help in narrowing down the year range of your guitar.
Here is a close up of the logo I think was on your guitar:

I never thought that everything I am, have and once had would be considered vintage. My guitars are holding up better than I am ;-p
