My mom in law in herited her dad's 1941 martin drednought when he passed away. She showed it to me once, when I was just barely playing. Anyways... she confronted me at Christmas dinner and told me I could borrow and play it whenever I wanted. I just needed to let her know. I almost fainted and choked on my food at the same time. WOW!!! I like my mother in law.

So have you borrowed and played the Martin yet?

If you get it in your hands let's try to pin down the model. It's potentially worth $5,000-$10,000 depending on exactly what it is.

I'm pretty sure it's a 1941 d18. That's what she has told me in the past anyways. I'm probably going to borrow it this week sometime. I'm looking forward to it. I have dreams about playing this guitar.

The Blue Book suggests a value of $22,500-$27,500 for a 1941 D-18 in Excellent condition and $15,000-$18,000 in Average condition.

Let it warm up to room temperature before you take it out of the case and take your belt off before you play it

Gruhn has this 1940 D-18 listed at $25,000. He rates the condition as VG++.

I'm definately posting pics of this thing when it's at my house. It's probably in the condition of the one shown by spud. I really can't wait to play this thing. You guys talking about it makes me want to play it even more. She had a local guitar shop restring it and I think he was drooling all over the thing while he was working on it. I don't know why she didn't ask me to do it!?!?

I really like it. Mainly because it's mine and I think it's a nice(playing and looking) guitar.
