I recently was given an old acoustic from a friend. Pics will be posted sometime this weekend as I do not have a working camera at the moment. Please understand I am not an expert on acoustics or a avid guitar historian for that matter :P

It is a Truetone 6 string acoustic from what I can tell is from the 60's. I'm certainly no wood expert/pain expert so I will say this...it's fretboard is a redish color and the body fades from a lighter brown in the center to black.

Now I'm not looking to sell this, or care whether or not is has any value. It's an old guitar but it should be played as well as taken care of. Now what I was TOLD about this guitar is that is was made during some merging of Kay, Harmony and i believe Silvertone is what he said. Supposedly only a few hundred were made and could be worth a couple grand. I'm definitely not buying that claim but the emblem and inlays baffle me. It has dot inlays and a round logo/emblem on the head. Every one of these I see on google images has different inlays and logo.

Any help identifying this piece with a model name, brief history or significance would be GREATLY appreciated.

Head stock logo like this?

Truetone was the brand name used by the chain store Western Auto . They didn't make the guitars. They were actually made by Kay, Harmony and maybe others. The guitars were inexpensive models and are commonly seen for sale.

Yes sir that's the logo/emblem it has. Does it have any significance, or it it merely a new logo for a new year or something?

From what I see in the Truetone catalogs, that round badge shows up around 1968-1970. Nothing more then a redesign. Also more Japanese made models showing up at this time period.

So are these guitars the equivalent to guitars bought at Walmart?
