I play bass and guitar just for fun no gigging or anything. Just picked up a 1957 Silvertone U2 from this lady's garage. She said it belonged to a friend of her son's and it had been in the attic for years and I could have it. Unfortunately it had been in the garage for some time too, moisture had destroyed the bottom of the case it was in and there is a little damage on the guitar itself but not bad. It's rough though and needs tuners, a nut and one of the stacked knobs. There is no other damage though and the neck is straight. It isn't strung but just plugged into an amp the pickups and pots sound like they're working. I'm going to do some research here and decide if I should refinish it (I'm a car painter so I can make it look great) or leave it alone. I don't know anything about value on these and what refinishing will do to the value. On the other hand I could restore it and have a cool retro guitar to play and not worry about it's value. Time will tell. Thanks for the site!
