When I saw the pictures of your guitar,my first thought was that they sure look like DeArmond made single coil pickups. I know that Guild used DeArmond's in some of their other models,so it could be very possible.

Here's a 62 that sold on eBay. Says they are DeArmond's,but I can't find any other confirmation as to that being fact.

Edit - I stumbled upon the correct info. Not a DeArmond. It is a Guild made single coil pickup.Similar looking to the DeArmond single coil that Guild sometimes used, but smaller. Nicknamed the Mickey Mouse pickup by Guild workers because of it's smaller size. Found a few references to it. Here's a couple.

Here's a Guild model that used the similar looking DeArmond made single coil.

Hey thanks Spud1950.....thats exactly the info i was looking for, 'Mickey Mouse' pickups indeed !

Anyway im happy now that i've finally bottomed that one out, its a great guitar and i love it, despite having numerous others over the years i keep coming back to the guild just due to the sound.

Cheers.

How would you describe the neck on your Guild? Is it chunky at all?

I have a friend who was selling a Guild very similar to that one, but with a single neck pickup instead of two pickups. I knew someone who could use the guitar so I got them together.

I tried it once at a gig. I was surprised at how thin-sounding the pickup was for a neck pup. The person who bought it just uses it for strummy rhythm guitar, so it's ideal for her.

Hey Jami, I've owned two Guilds with that PU. A '69 Studio 302 (like an Epi Casino with pointy horns) dbl PU's & completely hollow and a 1972 M-65 (like a mini LP hollow-body with sngl neck PU). I probably used 'em wrong, but my memory says they were real quiet, both in noise & volume, and like cheepaxes said kinda' thin, more suited to low-volume work, like supporting a soft-jazz or folk-Americana type vocalist. The feedback was impossible for me to control, playin' high energy R'N'R & top 40 thru' a Music Man 130 W 4x10, but I was young & stupid. The necks on both were beautiful man, slim, fast & comfortable. You could literally play for hours. No kiddin'.

Wish I still had 'em both! In fact if anyone knows where a cherry red ST-302 ser # ES 296 is please contact me. Same for M-65, I can't remember ser # of 1972 M-65 Cherry, but it was also bright red and Pyramid Guitars in Detroit put a stop-tail on it for me, floating BR a pain. Hope that's not improper in this thread.

Anyway, all Guilds I've owned had killer necks. If you want to hear what an M-65 sounds like, there's video on you tube of Tom Waits playin' a brown one. Can't remember the song. Also back in 60's-70's Zal Yanovsky & John Sebastian of the Lovin' Spoonful were Guild endorsers, so there might be video of them too ,altho' they almost certainly used Starfires with the Guild HB PU's. IMO, American made Guilds from late 50's--late 70's have the best necks & finish in the world, they're just a little weak in their electronics. I hope this gets some more info out there, Guilds don't get the respect they deserve!

Thanks for lettin' me babble----Eddie.

Thanks all,

Yes the guitar has a great neck.

I agree with one of the posts above, feedback can be an issue when trying to play loud rock....you can try the Malcolm Young trick and stuff it with socks or something :D

Otherwise i do use this guitar for everything from quiet kind of blues stuff through to punk / rock. It works great. But for blues i havent ever had a guitar that comes close....from the moment i first played it to today it just oozes the blues....

Great instrument i love it and you dont see many around.

Cheers.
