given enough time, they`ll all be vintage one day...if your askin` which will become collectable...lemme boot up my crystal ball and see what it says. Who would have ever thought old MIJs would go for the prices they do now?... I look through my old Japanese monthly magazines sometimes, and as early as 1997 Grecos that sell for thousands of dollars today were selling for a few hundred then, and I bet very few were buying, especially in japan. Now?... forget it, if you don`t already have some you`ll probably need to get a second or third job to pay for some of em. Who knows where it`ll all end eh...I`ve already got more fantastic guitars than I`ll ever use in this lifetime so...que sera sera...

May as well add my bit.
I think if you are planning to invest in something that may appreciate - get something made by "hand". Its hard to imagine that anything made by a CNC machine can appreciate...but we see it with 1980s Fenders...

As I have collected info for my site I have come to realise that items like strats, les pauls etc are made for the masses and are very inexpensive compared to guitars played by classical guitarists - $20,000 brand new for a classical guitar is not uncommon.

I think pre convention brazilian rosewood acoustics are likely to appreciate also.

I think there is a general nostalgia factor to old guitars though. My son has a 1980s Aria Bass- it is older than him - that would be like me owning a 1954 Tele. He loves it and his friends think it is ancient.

I think there will be always be a demand for 'old' and today's guitars will get old...
