I think it is now well-established that I'm mildly obsessed with the Supro Pocket bass... haha... and it seems each day I find a new oddity to knock me for a loop.
Today's conundrum involves tuners.
Now, everyone knows that these Pockets were notorious for their over-sized (and sadly inaccurate) Kluson bass tuners.
Mike Robinson has a National-branded Map-shaped pocket on his site that appears to have larger, Fender/Grover-style machines installed... and until this day I considered this an utter fluke, a frankie...
and now there's this:

Very typical bass tuners for the era, sans the clover-leaf keys...
...but on a Valco instrument???
If it were just the one bass, I'd shrug it off as a mod... but two?? Anyone else ever caught anything like this?
