1965 Epiphone Wilshire!

I got this 1965 Epiphone Wilshire.last week. It looks pretty much like it has been in a closet for 45 years.The weird thing is that it came from the factory wired for stereo! Were guitars like records in the 60s? Did it cost a dollar more for the stereo version?

My 66 Crestwood Custom has the same wiring...i think.
When the pick-up selector is in the middle position either volume knob will control the volume of both pickups.
My guitar tech this is standard on many mid 60s Gibson/Epiphone guitars.

Only tangentially related - Musicians Friend has a sale on their Wilshire RIs at the moment. These have two full-sized HBs. I think they're going for about $300. I alsways kind of wanted one of these, but just can't justify the purchase at the moment.
