this is my '58 Silvertone, my wife won it for me at auction a few years back and since the guys at Emerald City guitars here in Seattle did a fantastic re-fret right before they gave it *and its original tweed case AND !! the tiny Meteor amp the guitar came with in '58* to the auction, I decided to do a full restore of the guitar, including new paint. The color is Coppertone, which is a classic Schwinn Sting-Ray bike color from the 60s, and it's a true candy color, so there is prime / aluminum base / translucent copper color / clear ....about 237,000 coats of clear !! once I had the neck & body striped, I discovered that although Dan-O used the fiberboard fronts & backs to keep costs down, they used REALLY nice hard rock maple for the full body sides and the amazingly beautiful & heavy neck.....it was a mother to get all the dents & dings out of the body front & back, as well as build up surfacer before I shot the primer coats, but patience & taking my time paid off nicely. The thing polished out very, very deep, and these photos do not do the paint work justice, much cooler in-person. I've got strings on her now and she's fully set-up, intonated beautifully (you'll notice the aftermarket Dan-O adjustable bridge I installed, as I wanted this guitar to be a great player) and playing really nice & low with no buzz. I also pulled the entire stock harness, with original 1 Meg pots, lipstick, switch, jack, etc and will archive in the case w/ the original bridge & rosewood saddle, as I plan to put a today hi-output lipstick in her with 500K pots & switching & whatnot so I can plug into a Mesa or Marshall or Fender and get a tone with proper punch & projection. Will post more pics when she's wired up and a YouTube link so you guys can hear her ....Enjoy, bye for now .......
