but a friend just bought a Stratotone for his kid for Christmas. He said it was from 1949, but I just don't think so. How about a Harmony H-49 Stratotone?

I agree with you, 1949 sounds awfully early for a Stratotone. My 1954 Harmony catalog lists the "New" Harmony Stratotone Solid Body Electric Spanish Guitar. They refer to it as a Model H44. The finish on the body is "copper-bronze". Does this look like like your friends guitar? sb

Those are cool guitars. A good friend and band mate in several bands has a Stratotone just like the one pictured. He uses it for slide - which is an excellent application for that guitar. Because he owns one, and because I regularly search old Harmony stuff on eBay, I know that the prices were going crazy high on the Stratotones back a year or so ago. I'm not sure where they are now.
