Epiphone New York pickups

Recently got a '51 Epi Zephyr Regent Deluxe and have a couple of questions about the pickups, which are the old New York style large single coils. Mine had the bridge pickup mounted with the pole pieces toward the neck; modern twin PU guitars usually have the neck polepieces nearer the neck and the bridge ones nearer the bridge. They're easy enough to flip around, but I wondered if anyone knew what was the stock mounting for them.

I'm also wondering if anyone makes replicas of these. Mine sound great, but if they fail, does someone make pickups in that size? They're smaller than a standard humbucker and bigger than the Johnny Smith ones. They have a different sound than P90s (less biting).

Hey zootsuiter, I finally found my Epiphone book.

The 1951 Zephyr Deluxe Regent pictured in the book shows the pole pieces of both pickups facing the neck so it looks like your guitar has the stock mounting.

Thanks for looking that up for me. Always interesting to see that what's standard today wasn't always. I actually tried flipping it around and it didn't make a lot of difference. Very slightly edgier. Not the direction I would have wanted to go, so I put it back in what I now know is stock. Thanks again.
