I don't think I've ever seen these Kays with the bushwhacker headstocks advertized in Kay company literature. It appears to me that Kay made these guitars to sell through department stores. Consequently, I've never seen any of these instruments with model names.
They were mostly sold in 1966-67. I believe the pickups were made by DeArmond. I've never heard a bass but the guitars have a very full midrangy tone. I know the instruments were sold through the Spiegel catalog as well as through Western Auto. Other department stores probably carried them as well. This bass is pictured in the 1966 Spiegel catalog. It is the mid priced bass of the three being offered. Original retail price was 79.99. Here is a picture of the guitar version of your bass branded Truetone which was the Western Auto brandname.
