how rare are 60s es-335s left handed?

hey guys,

i'm trying to find a late 60s ro early 80s es-335 left handed - i was just wondering if anyone knew how rare such an instrument is, how long i should expect to wait for one to appear on the market... i'm asking because i've found a black 82 reissue (the only old es-335 left handed i've found) but i'm not a fan of black and would rather have a late 60s one, so just trying to work out if i should go for it or not...

any advice would be much appreciated, thanks

hey man thanks for the reply any idea how rare though? i know its a hard thing to quantify.... have you ever seen one?

the guy at the vintage store in london said he'd had one in in 10 years - so obviously not something worth waiting for...

Sorry - never seen one...but u gotta remember righties look at a lefty, think something is wrong and then move on.

another suggestion no eBay u can register what you are looking for so if something shows up u can notified I think...

I can't find a reference for shipping totals that identifies left handed models.

Here is a link to Gibson shipping totals that you might find interesting but won't answer your specific question.



I've got a book of Gibson shipping totals around here somewhere that might be more detailed. I'll let you know if it is useful when I find it. sb

The pre-71 Gibson shipping figures don't split handedness - however 71-79 they do

Excluding ES artists etc, the shipping figs 71-79 are 27114 right hand and 267 left - that's just under 1%


From '58-'70 they made 23571 335s - so assuming the ratio left:right is the same, there are probably around 200-250 50s/60s lefties

True thats not many. Anyone know what % of people are left handed?
