Vox Mark IX

This is my latest find - it was in a warehouse at a music store since 1965. Opening it up was like getting it fresh from the factory in Italy. A truly mint "10" guitar.

That's very cool. Never heard of a 9-string guitar. It seems a little counterintuitive to have the doubled strings be mostly those that are in unison rather than octaves. Is the G in octaves?

Yes, the "G" string is in octave. It actually sounds very nice - full with a touch of jangle.

Eliminates the need for a double neck 6/12...

Thats awesome Roger.What a beauty! Actually a 9-string sounds like a good idea because some people remove the E and A octave from their 12-string to make them easier to play.Hey Roger,is the headstock black on your Vox IX?

The Bigsby is not original, thats for sure. Those knobs are not either. The Black Neck is not that unusual - but (to me) the white body is suspect. Not the actual body - that's the real deal, but the paint. I'd disassemble it and do a little forensic digging around.

To find any Mark IX in decent condition is rare. I just got super lucky.

My first guitar was a Vox Mark IX that I bought in the Summer of 1966.
It was pulled from a guitar show by Washington Music. The only one in the countryat that time was Black. The neck was maple with a rosewood board and not painted black.
I still have it. I had to replace one pickup with another vox pickup and the case had to be repaired when the movers dropped it. Still sounds great!
I never liked the sunburst finishes from vox. The yellow color of the 3 color sunburst always had a greenish cast to my eyes.
