I also read on voxguitar.net that the UK-made Phantoms while rarer than the Italian-made Phantoms were inferior players. I was told that for UK models the serial number assumes that the guitar was made in the 1960s and that the first digit refers to the specific year. Hopefully the upcoming Vox Guitars book will have some more info.
