Vox Phantom

Just read the history of the Vox Phantom in Vintage Guitar Magazine...maybe some of you have read the article. FYI...

What I learned is that the iconic image of Brian Jones playing his ( ) contrasts with the reality that The Phantom was poorly made ( ) and not very playable ( ). Brian's was a one-off and perhaps better quality than the production model.

That's just not true. UK Vox guitars have a bad reputation for lifting frets etc, but with a bit of a set up they can be fine guitars. Which is pretty much the same for any 50 year old guitar.

The Italian ones were made by EKO, and are more consistent than the UK models, again fine.

Brian Jone's was a prototype with a slightly longer body and a sawn off strat bridge, So it's a bit different, but I doubt it was 'better' as such.

Oh i've had quite a few Voxes... So it's based on first hand experience

Being highly regarded doesnt mean they are right. Most guitar dudes are pretty conservative- anything thats not a 59 les paul is an 'oddball'
