Diasonic, Any Info?

I just won it on fleabay, other than it's Kawai/Teisco made, anyone
know how it sounds, quality of electronics, etc? The tuners are not
original, but I have a set of Teisco's in the parts stash.
I recently bought a four pickup Telestar that plays and sounds beyond
it's reputation and price. I'm hoping this one is a gem too.

Not played that particular variety before, but I've had guitars with those pickups, hardware etc.

I really feel that contrary to the usual 'original is best' thing with old guitars, this type of thing can only really shine with some hardware upgrades. Leave the crappy old jap tuners in the box, get a bridge you can intonate properly, shim the neck so it angles properly, and you'll likely have a good and useable guitar.

This only applies to the low-mid level catalogue guitars, imho...the higher end ones are fine as they are.

Thanks for the response. I agree with your advice due to
my experience with my other Japanese guitar. It had a
home-made ebony bridge which I replaced with a copy
of the original, sounded like gravel in a beer can! I put
the ebony back on. I'm not that concerned with intonation,
I'm just a couch player.

i have 3 guitars with those type of pickups on them. i really like them. although they all needed to be wax potted to get rid of the feedback. one of them has that trem unit on it too, which is useless, just keep the vibrato bar off. you can intonate those bar type bridges too, you may need to take out the mounting screws and let it float. that way you can move it forward or back to get it in. it wont go anywhere, the strings hold it on.
