Hi folks - first post here! I signed up for the catalogues hoping to find out more about my Antoria LP but drew a blank - hope you maybe able to help.

I bought this guitar second hand in the late 90's and while it's mostly in fairly good condition at some point a previous owner added a third middle humbucker. It has the original Super 70 PAF open humbuckers in the neck and bridge and a DiMarzio in the middle - this gives it more growl than suites the styles I play especially since it's been wired Bridge & Middle, Bridge & Neck and Middle and Neck on the three position selector.

I'm looking to upgrade the pick ups for a more jazzy blues tone and tidy up / replace the cracked pick up rings etc while I do it - I'd love to lose the middle pick up altogether, but since that would leave me with a gaping hole . . . :(

.... the Seymour Duncan "Tone Wizard" asks you to specify the wood of the body, fretboard and neck and I have no clue what these are!

Any ideas how to find out?

cheers

why change the pickups?
super 70's are great for a bluesy tone, better rewire it, i did it on my 3 pu guitar too. (homebrew)
use the normal switching on a 3 pos switch, bridge, bridge and neck, neck, and replace one of the volumepots by a push/pull pot, with which you can switch on or off the center pickup in every position.
and when you're at it replace the other pots also with push/pull pots so you can get any pickup you wan't in or out of phase, or split them.
so no extra holes and easely to bring it back to original.

Thanks!

I had already found that site - it doesn't say anything about my specific guitar sadly - though it looks a little bit like the EG1737. Still I might join up and get some advice there too :)

The idea with the push pull pots sounds excellent - couple of questions if I may . . .

What might I replace the middle Dimarzio with? It really is pretty hot - no serials on it so I can't tell what it is beyond the fact that it adds way too much "growl".

Can you point me at a wiring diagram for what you're talking about doing?

I'm going to do this in two stages - first is just to disconnect the Dimarzio and tidy up the pick up rings etc - at least I'll then know how the Super 70's sound . . . and then second stage do something as you suggest with push pulls, though I'd been thinking of a four way selector.

cheers again!

Hi - you'll probably get more Antoria info at the www.ibanezcollectors.com forum - many 70s Antorias were identical to Ibanez models of the same era - built in the same factory, they sometimes even shared catalogue numbers. It's quite likely your Antoria will have a counterpart in the Ibanez range, and specs will be available.

Post some pics (or link to some pics - the image system on that board is a bit eccentric!) and post on the "other replicas" board.

Jon.

Thanks jedistar - those pics in the first link are the closest I've seen to my guitar after a lot of searching! The differences are probably due to this being a "custom" while mine is a "standard" - mine has a bolt on neck, has no "zebra" pickups, and the inlay is different on the neck and headstock - also mine is a much darker wine red sunburst.

Thanks Jon - I'm chasing up the IbanezCollectors link - I hadn't realised they were just re-badged Inanez for the UK market, though I knew they came from the same factory I'd no idea they were pretty much exactly the same guitars!

New pick up rings etc. arrive tomorrow - then I'll see how it sounds without the middle.

thanks!
