I was wondering if anyone had any info on this Samick Les Paul Classic? I bought it at a local shop for $250. It is in very good condition and is all original.

Its a nice guitar. Pretty good copy of a Black Beauty for the money. Nice ebony fretboard(?) small frets(fretless wonder). Just wondering when Samick made these? '80s? '90s? Any info would be appreciated

Found your exact model in the 1989-1990 Samick catalog. Listed as model LS-7- CUS. The fretboard is rosewood. Only other listed info is 22 fret, two humbuckers, two volume, two tone controls, toggle switch. That's it. I'm pretty sure that at this time period Samick was also making the Epiphone Les Paul's for Gibson.

I found the Samick link on this geocities fan page of

One difference I did notice is that my Samick has a different logo on the headstock

The model number is different too,but I can't really make it out it,looks like L6HG-402B(?)

You're right.Didn't notice the first time I looked so I rechecked the one in the catalog and although the picture is pretty small, the headstock logo definitely appears to be the script version, same as the one on that Japanese site. Otherwise, they look exactly the same.Have no idea what other differences,if any, they would have.

My second guitar was a Red Epiphone SG G-400 circa 1997. It was probably made by Samick. Besides crappy pickups, it was a pretty sweet guitar for the money but you certainly got the better deal here with your guitar.

Although I generally had to modify a stock guitar but the original pickups on the Samick are really bad. I bought a set of Gibson '57s used on Ebay but they were both dead so I changed the pickups to some old Dimarzios instead(Super II in the bridge and Air Norton in the neck.

I also bought a set of witch hats so it would look like the '74 Les Paul Custom I saw on the History Channel TV show "Pawn Stars" (below).

I got new pots and caps. Now it sounds great!

I would have put gold covers on the pickups but I can't put one on the Super II
