Univox Stratocaster Copy

Hi folks;

I have owned this Univox Strat copy for a number of years now and have never seen another one like it. I was wondering if anyone on this forum either has one or knows anything about this type of Univox guitar. The only Univox "Strat" copy I have ever seen was the "Ripper" which did not come with single coil pickups. Mine has 3 single coil pups and a 3 way switch just like an old strat. The neck is maple with a maple fingerboard and it appears that the body is plywood. The neck plate on the back only says "Made in Japan" Any info would be appreciated. Thanks!

A Strat copy similar to this showed up last week. It was badged Washburn.

I've seen a bunch of those over the years. At univox.org they refer to them as counterfeit Univoxes. IIRC, the person who put that information together over there never found any evidence that the Univox company which made all the Univoxes with which we're familiar ever made a straight Strat copy like that. I'm not sure anyone has ever determined who *did* make all those single coil Strat copies branded Univox. There are enough of them out there that they can't be considered rare or flukes.

exept for some minor things your guitar look quite like my , as you might have noticed.

How about having a look under the back cover and compare what you see ? What is your impression when you see my pictures ?

Ok, so there are similarities also in detail compare. As far as I can judge there is no plywood layers on mine - unless the cut out hides it well. Have you a suited camera to take a similar close up of your guitars rear slot w/o cover ? (incl. tremolo block)

Regarding weight. I do not (nor intend to) have a F.Strat, but a friend of mine brings his over now and then, and I cannot say we've discussed weight diff's alot... on guitars that is
Anyway, on my digital bathroom scale there is a difference of 4,1kg when I hold the guitar and when not. So, thats the approx weight.

Okey, let's see how it looks... Notice the mechanics are diff. too - and the "light strings clamps" on head, 1of vs. 2of (dunno what those are called ) diffs. too. The guitar name "print" are also different, obviously.
The neck adjustment slot you can see on my pics - and it sounds alike yours.

A friend just gave me his strat copy and it is a Univox made in Japan.

Three pole pickup switch and truss rod adjustment at the body end of the fretboard. The pickups are hot and I've set the action very low. Nice neck and a great player.
