I'm hoping someone can help me out with wiring a Teisco 2-pickup guitar with those sliding switches (see pics). I'm no expert, but I've tried a couple things, and the results are weird. The pickup selector switches don't really do anything, and without going into too much detail, the pots are doing really funky things as well. I can get sound out of the thing, but only when I have both pickups on, the boost engaged, the first volume control dimed, and the second volume control set to zero. Even then, the single tone control seems to operate the opposite of what you'd expect, i.e. more bass when turned clockwise and less when turned counter.

So here's the story on this guitar. I bought it cheap off a guy who had removed the pickups to experiment with P90s or something, but as far as I know, all I should have to do is re-wire the pickups--everything else should be the same as stock.

Does anyone have advice? Or, better yet, can anyone take pictures or make a diagram/schematic of a similar wiring configuration? Mine, by the way is a 1968 (I think) K-2L.

Here are the images:

i have the same guitar in sunburst. the tone knobs on these work in reverse. not sure why they did that, but they did. i re-wired mine to work like normal, i couldnt handle it in reverse. i have a schematic somewhere, it might be for a four pickup model but its the same idea. ill scrounge for it and post it if i find it. btw, i love mine, it sounds awesome and its fun to play, the pickups are pretty hot. its actually the highest output guitar i have.

Thanks John for the advice. I didn't notice that the tone pot was wired in reverse. That helped, and I think I figured out how to wire in the pickups, though I can't tell for sure whether the pots are doing what they're supposed to. I'd still be interested in that schematic if you happen to dig it up.

Anyway, while I have you, did you by any chance replace the tuners on yours? They are the weakest link on my guitar, so I wondering if you or anyone knows of a good source for 4x2 tuners that would fit the relatively narrow holes.

Thanks.

ive been looking for the schematic and i cant find it. i think its on an old drive i lost a while back. but ill keep looking. you have 2 on/off switches for the pups, and one is a solo/rhythm switch. which are totally usless if you ask me. id make it a kill switch. look for a fender jaguar wiring diagram. it uses the slider switches. as far as the tuners, mine were siezed up pretty good, but i took them apart, cleaned them real good and lubed them with mineral oil. they work great.

Thanks again, Johnny.

For the record, the tuners are not nearly as bad as I first thought. I have the tremolo going now, and as long as you're just going for a Bigsby-style warble, it stays in tune quite well. So they're keepers.

This is my first Teisco, and I must say it plays much better than I expected. It feels a bit like a toy when you first pick it up, but the neck plays great. The body's pretty beat up (read: "reliced," "road worn"), but functionally speaking, it's in great condition.

It's a really fun guitar, and in my opinion, super-cool looking.

My 2 cents.
