Vantage Info...?

I saw a Vantage Strat copy in the window of an antique shop. The store was closed so I didn't get a chance to handle it. It's a Strat copy, burst body, aged plastics, RW FB. The heastock was black with the Vantage logo and shaped like a Harmony.
I 've read the Matsumoko facotry made some Vantage guitars, could this be one of them? Price on the tag was $100.00.
Just thought I would try to get some info before I have a look see. Any help will be appreciated.

Hi Geezer.

Your description sounds like a mid 90's Vantage model, with the "Vantage" headstock. If so, it wouldn't be Matsumoku. The burst finish suggests it might be the bottom of the line 100 series where the black around the edges is used to hide the lamination of the body. The 100 model only came in Black or Burst. I think everything from the 200 series up has a solid alder body.

The $100 price tag also indicates a lower end model.

Thanks for the response. I think you are spot-on. I handled the guitar today, no serial number or country of origin. It did have a Samick type model sticker on the back of the neck where it meets the body; VIE-10SB.
Felt like a laminate (plywood) body, VERY nice neck and action. I already have two plywood body strat types, a 95 Squier Bullet, and a no-name. Both of them are sweet guitars. I actually like the chunky sound of a ply body. I'll pass on this one, but back to the hunt for the next treasure!
