Fender Stratocaster? (haha)

This is an interested piece that I took in on trade. It has a "fender" logo on the headstock, which I believe was the logo from a case or lapsteel. Whoever had this guitar took the time to stamp in "stratocaster" as you can see in the picture as well. Obviously, I know this IS NOT a fender by any stretch of the imagination. But, I am curious if any of you would be able to identify what it really is. Under the pick guard, there is a piece of paper that says "Saigon 1965."

Wow, that's a beauty. It's a Hang-Don, made in Vietnam. Probably brought back to the States by a vet. They were called "serviceman guitars", as the Vietnamese sold them around army bases. Some models were closer copies of Fender and passed off as such, though no modern collector would be fooled by them today like some GI's were in the 60's. There's a slightly later Hang-Don model pictured in Tony Bacon's book.
